JOURNAL: Copper Drop Danger

Once you have established that you have too much copper through blood or hair mineral analysis you may implement a program that rids you of copper.  Copper alone can be an emotional amplifier that fosters impulsive behavior but in conjunction with other metabolic issues copper may impact mental health in a huge way.  The unforeseen problem is that shedding copper to quickly can have deleterious effects.

Please be Warned:  It may seem wonderful to bring copper down quickly but in fact this can pose substantial short term issues.  When serum copper levels drop soft tissues including the liver and thyroid among others dump copper into the blood in a reaction.  That is good as high copper blocks liver and thyroid function but due to increased transport of copper into the blood from a variety of sources there may be a worsening of symptoms for a time.  To compensate Dr. Mensah told us that we should take half dosage for two weeks then go to full amounts as the "adjustment" may be uncomfortable.  I noticed that his protocol for zinc picolinate (helps get rid of copper) is less than half the allowed daily amount.   After further reading it is because he understands that the worsening of symptoms can disrupt the compliance with a more robust protocol.  The process of detoxing from copper can take up to a year.  So please take heed.  You may need to slowly up the zinc picolinate.
I personally have a discomfort in my shoulders and joints that are, after review common among those who are shedding excess copper from soft tissue.  It does improve the health of your liver and the tissues as the excess copper departs.  Here I provide some quotes to help you see I am not a wolf howling in the wilderness:

Dr. Robert Selig says
"Insomnia, increased fears and paranoia are common during the detox as the dumping of copper causes copper to enter the blood stream which causes a sodium potassium inversion...If you're not prepared for the copper dump, you'll have unbearable insomnia, anxiety,  panic attacks..."

Analytical Research Labs Inc posts:
" Many symptoms can occur when excess copper is eliminated from the tissues. One may experience headaches, usually of the migraine type. Extreme fatigue, acne, skin eruptions on the head, chest and thighs, free floating anxiety feelings, spaciness, fears and disorientation may occur. Changes in the menstrual period are common, including irregular periods, cramps and symptoms of premenstrual tension. Men may experience testicular pain. The elimination of copper can also cause joint pains. Nausea, digestive disturbances, anorexia and discomfort in the area of the liver may also occur during copper elimination."

Dr. Albert Mensah says:
"Copper is one of those bad boys when it is leaving your system....if it’s coming out too quickly. You can indeed control the rate at which elements like copper are removed from the system through detoxification. And that’s extremely important, because believe me, you don’t want somebody or a family member calling you saying, “What did you do to my wife? She is not the same person and…” I’ve had that happen before. So we have to be very careful."
